North Tampa scores 5 in late rally to win Bronco 11 title
McGuire Weaver led off the bottom of sixth inning with a home run that broke a tie and ignited a five-run rally Saturday (July 30) as North Tampa (Fla.) defeated Torrance American (Calif.) 13-8 to win the Bronco-11 World Series in Chesterfield, Va.
Weaver, North Tampa’s starting pitcher who had been relieved in the fifth, hit his last after falling behind 0-2 and gave North Tampa a 9-8 lead.
Connor Scott hit a two-run triple as North Tampa took a commanding lead.
Joel Brewer struck out two in a 1-2-3 inning to close out the game for North Tampa.
Kohl Kutsch went 2-for-3 with a double and scored twice for Torrance American.
Matt Ottino went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in for Torrance American.
Torrance American made it the title game a few hours earlier when Bo Henderson homered to lead off the top of the seventh and lift his team to a 7-6 win over the Adirondack Heat (N.Y).
