First baseman Jon Singleton must wonder what he needs has to do in order to return to the Astros.
Last week with Fresno of the PCL, he hit five homers, including three grand slams, and drove in 23 runs in seven games. He drove in 10 runs on May 13. Monday night he cooled off, going 1-for-4 with a triple.
Singleton was a bust last year with the Astros. He hit .168/.285/.335 in 95 games with Houston.
But Houston is not getting much better production so far this season with, mostly, Chris Carter at first. Through Monday, Astros first basemen have posted a .180/.272/.353 line.
The Astros obviously erred by promoting Singleton too soon last year. Apparently, they are determined to avoid repeating that mistake — even if it means making another mistake.
